• Silkworm Seed Producers, Chawki Rearers and Seed Cocoon Producers are required to register themselves under the Central Silk Board (Amendment) Act, 2006 to produce, possess and distribute silkworm seed which includes seed cocoons, silkworm eggs and Chawki reared larvae.
  • Silkworm seed producers and Chawki rearers desirous of obtaining the Registration under the Act submit duly filled application in Form-12 and Form -13, respectively along with a demand draft for Rs. 100 drawn in favour of The Member Secretary Central Silk Board payable at Bangalore.
  • An applicant is eligible for registration if they produce a matriculate pass certificate and a certificate in respect of having undergone three months training in seed production technology or Chawki rearing technology as the case may be.
  • The entrepreneurs should process adequate infrastructure and skilled manpower. The chawki rearer should also possess well maintained Chawki mulberry garden.
  • The seed cocoon producers having enough experience in seed rearing and mulberry garden can apply for registration in Form-12 along with the requisite fee.
  • The applications submitted are scrutinized at the office of the Chairperson, Registration Committee and placed before the Registration Committee which meets at least two times a year.
  • The Committee examines the applications and decides to award the registration or seek clarification keeping them in abeyance till certain time or reject them based on the documents provided.
  • The applicants whose applications are kept in abeyance and rejected are notified and they are given an opportunity to be heard before turning the request down or accepted.
  • Bilingual registration (Hindi-English) certificates are prepared bearing an alphanumerical registration number (valid for 5 years) and dispatched to the applicant within a maximum 45 days of clearance.
  • To facilitate the new applicants, three months training is being organized at CSRTI, Mysore (for Chawki rearers) and at SSTL, Kodathi (for seed producers) at the applicants’ cost.
