National Silkworm Seed Organization (NSSO) is the largest and most widely spread institution under  Central Silk Board,  Ministry of Textiles,  Govt. of India,  with  the strategically placed Headquarters  in the CSB Complex, BTM Layout, Madiwala, Bangalore.

The organization is principally involved in production and distribution of high quality mulberry silkworm seed and implementation of the provisions of Central Silk Board (Amendment) Act, 2006 apart from many other important allied activities.

With over 700 strong specialized staff and 550 skilled auxiliary manpower on its roll spread across 111 stations in various parts of India, NSSO has been steadily growing over the years in terms of production and distribution of silkworm seed with unmatched professional efficiency.

When established in the year 1975, the primary objective of NSSO then known as Central Project and subsequently as National Silkworm Seed Project (NSSP) was to attract Indian traditional sericulturists to bivoltine sericulture educating them about the benefits of bivoltine sericulture.

Though changing the mindset of traditional serifarmers was a Herculean task, the hard work coupled with on-site demonstrations set the tone for a newer sericulture India over the years.

Today, NSSO is synonymous with the highest quality of silkworm seed both in basic and commercial spheres and the brand value of NSSO seed is growing stronger.  In fact, we stand for beyond silkworm seed……
